Along with the Ace through Ten numbered cards, the suits of the Tarot deck also hold “court cards.” (It is believed that the “court cards” were determined as such because in the early history of the development of the cards patrons would pay to have a deck made which included portraits of the important family members in the Court Card depictions.) While we are familiar with the jacks,
queens and kings of the modern deck of cards, the final member of the Tarot Court is represented by the pair of jesters or jokers you get with the modern deck. The joker is the final vestige of the Page (or Princess). The Court cards should always be looked at closely to see if they represent a situation or a person.
Queen above the King. Some have the Queen paired at the top with her husband the King, while others place her in position below the Knight. Our perception of the cards is what we have found to be the most commonly accepted one. That being, following the numbered cards in appropriate order we enter the court as a Page. From the lessons the Page gives us we are able to advance to the position of a Knight. The Queen sits her throne as equal to her husband, the King. In the assignment of energy reception, it is easy to see the progression.
