The King in the Tarot deck is the supreme ruler (at least within the minor arcana). He is confidence personified. Having been tested by the travails of life he sits his throne in confidence and security. The Kings, when related to the Pages, can be representative of the culmination of the matter. An ending to a period of growth and a time of achievement coming, soon to be at hand the Kings are strong messengers.

The Kings are normally more outgoing and extroverted than their counterpart, The Queen. Where the Queen looks within to know, the Kings look without to see. The Kings are always represented as commanding male figures. Having earned their Kingdom through their own personal enterprise, they are strong in themselves and able to consolidate their holdings to incorporate them into a new whole. The Kings, as an ending figure, can represent either the coming or going of a matter. Pay particular attention to the direction the King is facing. The aspect of his suit may be lending an influence on the direction to which he is looking. The ultimate of masculine energy the King has taken the brashness of the Knight and molded it into a positive controlled force always within his control.

On a physical plane, the Kings represent males in the full bloom of early maturity, normally in their 30s or 40s. When one of The Kings appears in the spread it should be studied for indications of physical characteristics of a new man coming into the picture. This man need not be a romantic affiliation…he may be the guise of a father-figure or a friend.
