The five of staves announces its contention by the combative stance of both the man and the woman. It is obvious there is discord and dissention between the previously happy and content couple.
Struggle and contention are the clear meanings of this card. The struggle may not be related to relationship, but will normally have an impact upon relationships. This card talks about obstacles and even butting heads. Contradictions may be indicated and indecision could be harmful. Don’t stagnate yourself! Struggle and labor are uncomfortable, but the very act of working through the adversity teaches us much about ourselves.
